About the Symposium
On 16 October 2026, Art Voyage Biennial founder and curator Tima Jam moderated Moving Perspectives Across Cultures at FOCUS Art Fair, bringing together artist Laurel Holloman, curator Manmeet K. Walia and multidisciplinary artist Nedko Water.
The symposium explored how art, identity and cultural narratives move across borders, examining the roles of memory, place and representation in shaping artistic practice and cultural exchange. Through perspectives spanning painting, curatorial practice and multidisciplinary art, the conversation considered how artworks acquire new meanings as they encounter different cultural contexts and audiences.
Highlights from the Conversation
Artist
Los Angeles-based artist known for vibrant colour and large-scale paintings that capture intense emotions through dynamic movement and three-dimensional illusion.
Reflecting on her transition from acting to painting, Holloman shared how her work resonates with audiences across cultures, revealing unexpected emotional connections and interpretations.
Curator
Independent curator, writer, and cultural advocate based in London, specialising in South Asia and the diaspora.
Drawing on her experience curating a recent South Asian art exhibition at SOAS, Walia explored the challenges of cultural representation and the influence of curators, collectors and academia in shaping how art is understood and valued.
Multidisciplinary Artist
Artist who treats water as a temporal image rather than a subject. His installations stage the meeting of a live abiotic action and a recorded trace within the same medium.
Discussing his multidisciplinary practice, including STAGONIA, presented at FOCUS Art Fair, Water explored the relationship between water’s abiotic memory and human memory, and how audiences contribute to the evolving meanings of artworks.
Continuing the Conversation
Moving Perspectives Across Cultures highlighted the importance of dialogue across artistic disciplines, cultural perspectives and geographical boundaries.
Through Tima Jam’s participation as moderator, Art Voyage Biennial continues to contribute to conversations that encourage cultural exchange, broaden perspectives and create connections across the international art community.
We extend our thanks to FOCUS Art Fair, the speakers and everyone who joined the conversation.
