A Series of Textile Workshops Led by Four Artists
As part of Tapestry of Voices, Art Voyage brings together four contemporary textile artists — Divya Sharma, Sarah Waters, Yahvi Duggal and Zethu Maseko — to deliver a series of artist-led workshops with communities across London.
Through hands-on making, participants explore textile techniques while reflecting on themes of identity, memory, heritage and belonging. Each workshop is shaped by the individual artist’s practice, introducing different materials, processes and approaches to contemporary textile art.
Designed to be welcoming and accessible, the workshops create spaces for participants to experiment, develop creative skills, share experiences and connect with others through making.
The programme is delivered in collaboration with community and cultural partners including PAN Intercultural Arts and Creative Health Camden, as part of Tapestry of Voices, supported by Arts Council England.
What Participants Explore
Across the programme, participants encounter a wide range of textile practices, from felting, stitching and appliqué to natural dyes, weaving, biomaterials and sculptural techniques.
While every workshop is different, they share a common approach:
- Learn new textile skills through hands-on guidance from practising artists
- Explore personal and cultural stories through colour, texture, material and form
- Experiment with sustainable materials and processes, including reclaimed and natural materials
- Build creative confidence in supportive and inclusive environments
- Connect with others through shared making, conversation and storytelling
- Develop work and ideas that can continue beyond the workshop itself
No previous textile or artistic experience is needed for workshops designed for beginners.
Four Artists, Four Workshops
Weaving New Life from Scraps with Zethu Maseko
Completed · June – July 2026
Led by multidisciplinary artist Zethu Maseko in collaboration with Creative Health Camden, this four-session series explored memory, heritage and storytelling through recycled textiles, natural pigments and mixed-media making.
Participants experimented with ingredients including hibiscus, coffee, matcha, nettle and henna to create natural pigments, combining colour and textiles with personal symbols and stories.
Tufting Tales with Divya Sharma
Completed · June – July 2026
Across eight sessions delivered with PAN Intercultural Arts and Creative Health Camden, British Indian textile artist Divya Sharma invited participants to explore identity, culture and belonging through textile storytelling.
Working with techniques including needle felting, appliqué, beadwork, slow stitching and cyanotype printing, participants translated memories and personal experiences into colour, texture and pattern.
Feltmaking with Sarah Waters
Upcoming
Led by contemporary textile artist Sarah Waters, this workshop introduces participants to the tactile possibilities of wool and feltmaking, drawing on Sarah’s deep connection with sheep, landscape and the natural environment.
Through hands-on making, participants will explore the qualities of natural fibres while developing their own creative responses to texture, form and the landscapes around us.
Sculpting with Discarded Textiles with Yahvi Duggal
Upcoming
Led by textile artist and Peel Studio founder Yahvi Duggal, this workshop explores how discarded fabrics can be transformed into three-dimensional textile forms.
Participants will experiment with wrapping, coiling and stitching, transforming everyday remnants into tactile sculptures while considering texture, colour and shape. Through creative reuse, the workshop encourages participants to see new possibilities in materials that might otherwise be thrown away.
From Workshop to Exhibition
The workshops form the first phase of Tapestry of Voices, creating opportunities for participants to develop skills, experiment with contemporary textile practices and explore their own stories through making.
The wider programme continues through mentoring and creative development, followed by a public exhibition from 29 October – 15 December 2026, bringing together work developed through the programme alongside works by invited contemporary artists.
Date: 29 October – 15 December 2026
Location: Dandi Battersea Gallery, London
