Fariba Boroufar is a weaver and fibre artist who imbues her art with the traditions and culture of her homeland, Iran.
With a primary focus on Iranian architecture, Boroufar’s works unfold as woven memories, born from the sensory experiences gained during her travels while encountering Iranian architecture from past centuries. As an artist she works to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, by using the ancient art of weaving to explore and reinterpret the rich cultural and architectural history of Iran.
Her textile works contain a profound sense of cultural memory while addressing contemporary issues such as architectural degradation and the loss of identity. The forms and colours she uses embody the decaying beauty of abandoned structures, creating a sharp contrast with modern architecture.
