Featured Artists
Vladimir Lalić
Vladimir Lalić is a London-based Serbian multidisciplinary artist who channels personal experiences of war and displacement into his practice. For Echoes of Migration, he will create delicate, dragonfly-shaped installations within the River Quaggy at Manor House Gardens, referencing Lewisham’s historic ties to migration while celebrating resilience and progress. The concept centres on a species of imagined creatures symbolising the transformative power of migration. These creatures are inspired by both the mass migrations caused by the breakup of Yugoslavia and natural phenomena like Cvetanje Tise (the blooming of the Tisa River). This spectacle of mayfly emergence represents fleeting beauty, resilience, and the interconnectedness of ecosystems. Read more about “To Move is to Bloom”
Alice Burnhope
Alice Burnhope is an award-winning textile artist celebrated for her participatory and community-focused projects. Her artistic practice explores sustainability, community engagement, and the sensory human experience through tactile, immersive artworks. Crafting Connections (2025), created and composed by Alice Burnhope, is a human-sized textile sculpture made from the individual artworks produced by workshop participants. Each stitched piece holds a personal memory or meaning. When combined, they form a single shared artwork that reflects the multicultural life, layered identities, and interconnected stories of Lewisham. The sculpture will travel to various public spaces over the next three years. Its journey began at the RSA in London. It now returns to Manor House Gardens, where the community who created it can see their work gathered and uplifted.

Ryan Hawaii
Ryan Hawaii is a British-Jamaican/Cuban artist with Windrush heritage who lives in Lewisham. His practice spans painting, textiles, fashion, and music, tackling themes of identity, struggle, and gentrification.
For Echoes of Migration, Hawaii created “La Mesa Del Pueblo” (The Peoples Table) 2025, installed at Pistachios in The Park Cafe, in Manor House Garden.
Ryan’s artwork takes the form of a reimagined tabletop, a meeting place woven from textiles, stories, and community research. This large-scale tapestry celebrates the borough’s vibrant cultural, architectural, and social history through colour, texture, and storytelling.
Crafted from richly sewn felt, the piece brings together Lewisham’s most iconic landmarks , the Catford Cat, Hither Green Clock Tower, Broadway Theatre, and the Noir & Stix mural, alongside portraits of local heroes and independent businesses that keep the heart of the borough beating. "Echoes of Migration" and Art Voyage
The Echoes of Migration project explored how migration shapes identity, culture, and creativity.
The project has unfolded in three strands:
- Creative workshops with schools and community groups in Lewisham, delivered by artist Alice Burnhope
- The Echoes Summit at the RSA in central London – a one-day event with panels, performance and networking.
- And finally, a public art installation in Manor House Park, Lewisham by artist Vladimir Lalić, co-created with communities, and the installation of an artwork by Alice Burnhope; created with the textile works by Lewisham community members during the initial workshops.
Together, these strands have created a multi-layered cultural programme that honoured migrant voices, inspired dialogue, and built lasting connections.
